Patent law is a legal term which deals with the rights granted to inventors. The law grants inventors the exclusive right to control what happens with their invention for a certain time period.

Patent law protects the intellectual property of the inventor, so other people cannot reproduce or sell what was invented without permission.

Patents are not valid for information that is known in public domain, or that is already patented by someone else.
